This year, for our season of gifts, my awesome wife got me a cool gift, a sketchbook. She’s gotten me many sketchbooks in the past, but this one is special. It is a sketchbook for The Sketchbook Project. When I am done my sketchbook will be digitized and kept in a library with other books created by artists from all over the world. I’ll post photos of the progression of my book here and on my social media. This project is exciting and nerveracking. Usually there is zero pressure to filling a sketchbook, it’s a place just for me, to practice and experiment. I like that it will be a available for other artists and a large audience to view for years to come. The photo at the top of the page was my first drawing in the book. It is a family portrait. Check this page for updates.

I originally tried the post this on New Year’s Eve. It didn’t post properly, probably because I was trying to Opening champagne and count down from 10. Hope your year is going well so far.
I have been trying to decide what I wanted to write about for the last few weeks. I wanted to post at least one more set of words in 2018, but the time just kept ticking with nothing to show for it. I had a few ideas that were good starts, but never was focused enough to sit still long enough to add flesh to their bones. Since my last post, I have continued to work on new paintings for next year’s exhibitions. I took a look back at some old sketchbook pages and revisited some painting processes I haven’t used in a while. I was going to write about how this time of year is a perfect for reflection and somehow juxtapose it with my previously mentioned creative actions; I never got past that initial thought. I almost just wrote about how this year was full of compromise and various trials. And while that was true for my personal life, my creative life was quite fulfilling; there’s something interesting about that contrast. As I sit here writing this, with only minutes to this year’s end, I think all I want to say is thank you. And Happy New Year. I feel relief now that I have posted one last time.* It turns out it wasn’t too late to get one more post posted.** I feel hopeful and excited about 2019. I miss my love, who is across the ocean, but I know she is warm, happy and full of yummy food. I get to see a another new year with my folks and fur babies. I hope all of you have a great new year. Thank you for supporting me and visiting my site this year. See you next year! * almost ** kinda
